PoshX's final costume fitting – a hat that stays and a soft wand

Zurich – 30 October 2026, 18:55. My living room after an early shift, five cats, five costumes, one long mirror leaning against the radiator and a tray of tea nobody is drinking yet.

The hat finally stays

For a week the red star hat has been sliding off my head every time I looked down. Tonight SinDee solved it in two minutes with a piece of elastic and a hairpin from a painter's toolbox. I nodded, I bent over, I did a little run down the hallway. The hat stayed. I may have clapped. A wizard is allowed to clap.

The wand gets a soft tip

The golden star on my wand was cut from an old paint tin, and it looked lovely, but the edges were a nurse's nightmare. So the tin star went onto the wall above my desk, and the wand got a new one made of yellow foam with gold paint. It still catches the light. It no longer catches anybody's eye. Kinky tested it on her pumpkin belly and declared it "officially harmless".

The briefing in five points

Everyone sat on the sofa in costume, and I stood in front of them with the wand like a teacher with a pointer:

1. See where you walk. Masks off on the stairs, hats checked at the door. 2. LED tea lights only. No real flame anywhere near capes, brooms or robes. VenRod nodded before I even said his name. 3. Water between the sweets. The water station is next to the counter, under the boombox. 4. The quiet corner is real. If the music gets too much, go there, no explanation needed. 5. Nobody walks home alone. We pair up before the doors close.

DeeNice copied all five into the black notebook and drew a small star next to point five.

Teamwork in a mirror

At the end we stood together in front of the mirror: a white witch, a pumpkin, a glowing skeleton, a vampire in blue sneakers and me in stars. Nobody spoke for a second. Then SinDee turned off the light, her bones lit up, and everybody laughed at once. That is the picture I will paint next week.

The best magic trick is a party where everybody gets home safe.
