Kinky decorates the Dada Kaffee for the KC Halloween party

Paper bats, a sticker-bombed pumpkin, the silver boombox on the counter and a hand-lettered sign for the quiet corner: Kinky decorates the Dada Kaffee.

29 October 2026 · 16:40 · Kinky

Zurich – 29 October 2026, 16:40. Standing on a chair in the Dada Kaffee with a roll of tape in my mouth, a paper bat in each paw and somebody below me saying "careful" every eleven seconds.

Forty bats and counting

Yesterday evening I cut paper bats at the kitchen table until my scissors squeaked. Black paper, pink eyes, and every tenth bat gets a tiny KC on its wing, so you have something to look for when the music is too loud to talk. Now they hang from the lamps on fishing line and turn slowly whenever the door opens. It looks like the ceiling is breathing. I love it a little too much.

The pumpkin that got stickered

Carving is for the kids at the workshop. For the café I wanted a pumpkin you could read. So I took the biggest one from the market and sticker-bombed it: crew stickers, old sketches, a few hearts left over from the Love Icons drafts, one sticker with my wink upside down. It sits by the entrance and greets everyone. VenRod already stood in front of it for ten minutes, studying it like an exhibition.

The boombox gets the counter

DeeNice carried the silver boombox in herself and would not let anyone help. It now stands on the counter between the coffee machine and the cake stand, pink sticker on the right speaker facing the room. We tested it with "Don't Stop Me Now" and two customers started tapping their spoons. That is a good sign. On Saturday it will play all our playlists on shuffle, so expect Knef next to James Brown.

A sign for the quiet corner

DeeNice's rules say there must be a quiet corner, so I lettered the sign today: Quiet corner – for cats who need a breath. Soft letters, no glitter (I know, I know), a little moon. There are cushions, a blanket and LED tea lights from PoshX, because real candles are banned and the wizard checks. Sometimes the best part of a party is five minutes where nobody asks you anything.

Almost ready

Two days to go. The bats are up, the pumpkin is shiny, the boombox is warm. Now I only have to make sure my own pumpkin belly still fits after all the soup.

Decorating is just sketching with tape and a ladder.
