A Year of Workshops Starts on One Notebook Page

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 12 January 2023, 19:30. Snow outside, steam on the windows, and four cats at the regular table in the back pretending they were not cold.

One page, one idea

I opened the black notebook on a fresh page and wrote a single line: Workshops, all year. Nobody argued, which never happens. Last year we painted, travelled and celebrated five years. This year we want to hand some of it on.

The plan is simple. One drawing session a month, open to anyone, from first-timers to people who still have a marker in every coat pocket. Small groups. Paper first, walls later.

Who does what

Kinky will lead the first evening on letters, because she says nobody teaches failure better than the cat who drew a K that looked like a broken garden chair. SinDee takes characters and colour. PoshX wants a session on painting big together, as soon as her shift plan for spring is out. I will do what I always do: find the room, count the chairs, write it all down.

The small print

We need paper, pencils, a few cans for the later sessions and vegetarian snacks. Kinky asked about the snacks before anything else. Of course she did. First session is pencilled in for early February.

"If one person leaves with a sketchbook they did not have before, it worked." – SinDee
