Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 13 December 2022, 20:30. Snow outside, candles inside, four envelopes on the table. The December sticker swap – the sixth one now. I came straight from an early shift and had actually slept. A small Christmas miracle.
The swap Same rules: one secret sticker each, swapped blind. I got Kinky's: a garden chair with a K on its back. She couldn't wait. Kinky got SinDee's – a tiny bridge with a seagull sitting on it, for Stockholm. SinDee got DeeNice's: a black notebook with five tails sticking out. DeeNice got mine, a little Turner sunset with "17:17" in the corner. She put it straight on her notebook cover.
What a year DeeNice read 2022 aloud. Bridge sketches in January, the honest talk in February, "Five Lives" in spring, Stockholm in May, five years at 17:17 in July, "Open Again" shining again, SinDee's forest lake in Oerlikon, and the archive with its famous garden chair. Nobody spoke for a moment. Then Kinky asked for more snacks.
2023 One plan made tonight: a workshop series next year – not one afternoon, but a whole row of them, for kittens and grown-up cats, in different districts. The Oerlikon grandkittens and the Wiedikon kittens gave us the idea without knowing it. I'll plan the first one around my shifts. SinDee wants one outdoors, of course.
The archive continues in January. And the playlist for the next swap is already under negotiation.
