Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 13 September 2018, 20:00.
Back from two weeks of walking in the mountains, rested and full of opinions. I arrived first and ordered the vegetarian snacks before Kinky could ask, which made her very happy and slightly suspicious.
The workshop
Last Saturday we held our first kids' drawing workshop at the youth club. Twelve children, two hours, a lot of crayons. Every single one drew a cat from three shapes. The letters were wild and wonderful. One girl drew an R with legs that ran off the page. At the end, the long paper strip was full: twelve cats, twelve letters, one small mural. The youth club leader wants to hang it in the entrance. We want to do it again.
And yes, two kids copied Kinky's garden-chair K. On purpose. She is unbearable now.
The Wiedikon wall
Now the bigger news. A family in Wiedikon owns a building with a side wall facing their garden. They saw Seventeen and asked us if we would paint something for them. A real invitation. The owners want "something warm for the autumn". We said yes, of course, on our terms: they see the sketch first, we paint over two weekends in October, we clean up everything.
Who does what
PoshX will lead the colours: autumn leaves, warm light. I will draw the outlines and characters. Kinky handles the letters, under supervision. DeeNice will speak to the owners and keep the schedule around PoshX's shifts.
Kids don't care if a line is perfect. Maybe we shouldn't either. – SinDee
