Pop, Comics and Concrete – Studying Mickry 3

VenRod and DeeNice study the Zurich artist trio Mickry 3 – their sculptures and reliefs – at an exhibition, then debate teamwork at the Ole Ole Bar.

Zurich – 25 March 2023, 20:20. The Ole Ole Bar again, because it's becoming our Zurich thinking spot.

Three artists, one signature

Mickry 3 is a Zurich artist trio: Nina von Meiss, Christina Pfander and Dominique Vigne. They met at the F+F school of art and media design, have worked together since 1998 and only ever sign as a group. Their sculptures, reliefs and installations mix comics, pop culture and everyday objects with a sharp eye on consumer culture – funny at first glance, often uncomfortable at the second. Much of their work stands in public space in Zurich and Schlieren.

They are not graffiti writers – and that's exactly why DeeNice chose them. We visited an exhibition with their work this afternoon, and afterwards walked past one of their public pieces.

How it went

A long talk about signing as a group. The Klitty Crew paints together, but we still sign as four cats. Mickry 3 sign as one. DeeNice wrote "Ego?" in her notebook and underlined it. Questions for later: How do three artists agree on one piece? Who has the last word? What makes something funny and uncomfortable at the same time?

A crew is not four signatures next to each other. Maybe it's one. – DeeNice

The Klitty Crew is a comic universe – all stories, meetings and events on this blog are fiction. Real artists, magazines and places only appear as inspiration; no real meetings, statements or endorsements are implied.
