The First Workshop and the Art of Broken Letters

Back at the Dada Kaffee in Zurich, the Klitty Crew reviews its first drawing workshop on letters and fixes the next dates of the 2023 series.

8 February 2023 · 20:15 · Kinky

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 8 February 2023, 20:15. My fingers still smelled of pencil shavings when I sat down. The crew had already ordered, and yes, someone remembered the vegetarian snacks.

How it went

Twelve chairs, fourteen people. Two sat on the windowsill and did not complain once. I started with the worst letter I ever made: my old K, the one that looked like a broken garden chair. I drew it big on the first sheet and the whole room laughed. After that, nobody was afraid of a wobbly line.

By the end everyone had a page of letters, and one quiet kid from Kreis 4 had filled three. DeeNice wrote his name in the notebook with a little star.

What we changed

Paper first worked. But people wanted colour sooner, so SinDee moves her characters-and-colour evening forward to March. PoshX can join the April session after her night shifts. DeeNice found a second room in case we get fourteen again.

Something odd

Three people asked if they could have the garden-chair K as a sticker. I said no. SinDee said "why not". DeeNice wrote something down and did not show us. I know that look.

"Show them the bad K first. Then the good one means something." – me, apparently, according to the notebook
