Barcelona – 14 October 2023, 21:00. A terrace in Gràcia, warm evening, DeeNice drawing ghosts on a napkin.
From letters to a logo
Back in Barcelona, this time for Camil Escruela, a self-taught Barcelona artist who started in graffiti in 2004. He soon left classic lettering for a kind of "logo graffiti": a ghost with a mouth and eyes that became his signature. His characters come from the world of comics and illustration and show scenes around graffiti writers, their everyday lives and social issues.
We visited an exhibition with his work and laughed more than at any study before. But the scenes are not only jokes – they look closely at the people behind the paint.
How it went
Fun, and a bit of a mirror. The Klitty Crew is also a bunch of characters with stories. DeeNice says Camil's ghost proves that one simple figure can carry a whole world – like André's Mr. A, like our cats. Questions for later: When did the ghost become you? How do you choose which stories from graffiti life to tell? What's the hardest thing to draw in one character?
One ghost, many stories. We know the feeling – we're four cats. – VenRod
The Klitty Crew is a comic universe – all stories, meetings and events on this blog are fiction. Real artists, magazines and places only appear as inspiration; no real meetings, statements or endorsements are implied.
