Four Squares, One Wall: Our Tile Mural Is Done

Three days in Zürich West

The tile mural is finished. Four big squares, one per cat, side by side like azulejos on a Lisbon house.

Kinky's square: a winking cat climbing stairs, with a tiny garden chair hidden in the corner. SinDee's: cold blue waves, the Baikal blue meeting the Atlantic. DeeNice did not paint in public, as usual, but she designed the border that holds the four together. Mine: two cats painting one wall. Of course.

Painting it as a team was the best part. Ladders moving, cans passed along, someone always holding the other end of the line. Teamwork is a source of inspiration in its own right. I will keep saying it.

Music on the wall

Day one: my playlist, The Cure and Depeche Mode. Day two: Kinky's, AC/DC only. Day three: a fair compromise, which ended with AC/DC.

What comes next

The workshop series has three sessions left. September: teenagers, letters to walls, on a practice board. October: a session about sketchbooks. November: an open evening where anyone shows what they made this year.

DeeNice also wants to start collecting every sketch we made in 2023 before winter. She called it an archive. Kinky called it a pile.
