Sketchbooks, Sunscreen and a Packing List for Lisbon

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 6 June 2023, 20:30. Warm enough for the terrace, but the notebook does not like wind, so the back table it was.

The list

DeeNice read the packing list out loud like a court verdict. Sketchbooks, two each. Pencils, too many. Sunscreen, because Kinky forgets. One small set of markers per cat. No cans. Lisbon is for looking and drawing, not for painting walls we have no permission for.

I added my pink beanie to the list. Everyone said it was summer. I said the beanie always comes along. It stays on the list.

The plan on the ground

We fly next Monday. Mornings: one street each, sketching tiles, doors and shadows. Afternoons: walking together. Kinky's contact wants to show us a rooftop where local artists meet, and maybe introduce us to people "we should know". Evenings: comparing pages over dinner. Kinky already asked if there is anything vegetarian in Lisbon. There is. A lot.

While we are away

The June workshop still happens. Two people from the very first session will run it themselves, letters again, with the garden-chair K as the warm-up. Five months ago they had never held a marker on purpose. Now they teach. DeeNice wrote that line in the notebook twice.
