When the Kids Drew Us Better Than We Draw Ourselves

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 11 May 2023, 18:45. Early meeting today because of my night shift. The crew agreed without a sigh, which I will remember.

Little hands, big ideas

Saturday's workshop was for kids. We asked them to draw the four of us, and they did not hold back. Kinky got a beanie the size of a tent. SinDee got three scarves. I got glasses with stars inside. DeeNice got a very serious face and a notebook as big as she is. She pinned that one on the café wall for the evening.

We learned more in two hours than in a month of sketching. Kids do not ask whether a line is right. They just draw it.

Lisbon, decided

Dates are fixed: the second week of June. Kinky has her contact, SinDee has a list of streets with tiles, and I have a playlist. Annie Lennox for the flight, Bowie for the hills. Kinky asked for AC/DC. We will see who wins. We always see who wins.

Plan for the week: mornings sketching, afternoons walking, one evening of drawing together on a rooftop if the weather allows. No painting without a yes from an owner.

Before we go

DeeNice wants one last garden-chair sticker run along the Limmat before the trip, only on spots where stickers are welcome. Next Tuesday, after dark.
