Barcelona – 25 January 2020, 20:45. A small bar in the Raval, olives, VenRod's sketches spread between the glasses.

What people throw away

This time I'm writing – VenRod lost his voice from talking all day. Our study: Art is Trash, the street name of Francisco de Pájaro, born in 1970 in Zafra and living in Barcelona since the end of 2003. Since 2009 he has painted on what people throw out: mattresses, boxes, bin bags and broken furniture turn into wide-eyed monsters and warriors that are usually gone by the next morning.

We visited an exhibition with his paintings and sculptures, then walked the streets in the evening to look at bin corners with new eyes. We didn't find a piece – they disappear fast. That is part of the work.

How it went

Very well, and a little humbling. We plan murals for months; he makes art that lives for one night. VenRod wants to ask about that one day. Questions for later: Does it hurt when a piece is gone by morning? What makes an object right for a monster? Which city has the best rubbish?

Art that is gone tomorrow still changes how you walk today. – DeeNice
