Dada Kaffee (terrace), Zurich – 17 July 2020, 18:45. Three years ago today, at 17:17, we became a crew. This year PoshX was off duty, so we met almost on time. The terrace was warm. I kept my pink beanie on anyway. It is part of me.
The wall is finished
We painted the thank-you wall in the first week of July, two at a time, in short shifts. It was strange to paint without all four of us together. But every morning you could see what the others had done the day before, like letters left on the table.
PoshX painted the faces. I am not exaggerating: they look like real people from her ward, only with whiskers. Kinky's letters are clear and warm. My flowers are the wild ones from the fields near home.
On the last day, a nurse stopped on her way to the tram, read "Thank you. We see you." and cried a little. Then she took a photo and said thank you back. PoshX had to go round the corner for a minute.
Three candles
DeeNice brought a small cake and three candles. We could not sing loudly, so we hummed. Kinky hummed AC/DC. Of course.
Careful summer
No big jam this year. That is fine. Plan: small things, outside, with care. In August we restart the kids' drawing sessions in the park, very small groups. And Kinky's Zürich West letters wait for autumn, if things stay calm.
Next week I walk in the mountains. Travel can wait.
