PoshX's Idea: A Thank-You Wall for Nurses and Carers

Dada Kaffee (by video call), Zurich – 20 May 2020, 20:30. I joined late, still in my work clothes, and turned my camera off for the first five minutes because I needed to eat something. The others waited. They always wait.

Why I asked for this

These last two months have been long. At work we are a team, and teamwork carries us. But many carers, cleaners and nurses go home tired and nobody sees them. The clapping from balconies was lovely. Then it got quiet.

So I asked the crew: when we can paint walls again, can our first one be a thank-you? Not a sad one. A warm one. Something a nurse walking home after a night shift can look at and feel seen.

Nobody said "maybe". Kinky said "yes" before I finished. SinDee nodded hard enough that her pink beanie slipped. DeeNice opened the notebook.

The sketch

We drew together on a shared screen, which was chaotic. A row of cats in scrubs, gloves and aprons, holding hands. Above them, flowers. And a simple line: "Thank you. We see you." Kinky does the letters. SinDee wants the flowers to be the wild ones from her farm. I will paint the faces. I know these faces.

The plan

Decision: the thank-you wall becomes our first wall after lockdown. DeeNice will ask the owner of a small wall in Kreis 4, near a tram stop many hospital staff use. We paint in small groups, two at a time, with distance, as soon as the rules allow.
