Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 14 December 2021, 20:45. Candles on every table, frost on the windows, and a small pile of envelopes in the middle of ours. The December sticker swap is our oldest tradition after the meeting itself.
The swap Rules: everyone makes one sticker nobody has seen, wraps it, and we swap blind. I got Kinky's – a doorway cat wearing a Christmas scarf. Kinky got PoshX's – a tiny Bowie lightning bolt across a cat's face. PoshX got DeeNice's: just a black notebook with "2022" on the cover. DeeNice got mine, a little ice crack in the shape of a K. She said it looked better than Kinky's first K. Kinky threw a napkin.
Looking back DeeNice read the year from her notebook. January: sketches. March: the owner said yes. May: "Open Again". July: the comeback jam and four years of KC. Autumn: forty kittens, one kids' wall. Not a bad year for a crew that started it not knowing if any door would open.
Looking ahead 2022 already has two big pages. Stockholm in May. And 17 July 2022 at 17:17 – five years of Klitty Crew. We decided tonight to keep the anniversary at this table, like always, but to plan something special around it. Ideas due in February. Bridge sketches for Stockholm due in January.
Then we drank one more hot chocolate and walked home through the snow, the long way.
