Berlin – 25 September 2021, 20:00. A bar in Kreuzberg, PoshX on a video call because she wanted to hear everything.

PoshX's hero

This study was a gift for PoshX. She discovered Mode 2 early, and he shaped her creative development more than anyone. Mode 2, born in 1967 in Mauritius, grew up in south London, started writing graffiti in 1983 and co-founded The Chrome Angelz in 1985. After settling in Paris in 1987 he became one of the leading figures of the Paris scene. He is best known for his figurative characters – above all his women and dancers – and for the character on the cover of the 1987 book Spraycan Art.

Today we saw an exhibition with his paintings and drawings. The movement in his dancers is unbelievable: you can almost hear the music.

How it went

PoshX cried a little on the call and then made us describe every single painting. DeeNice says now she understands where PoshX's faces come from. Questions for later: How do you make a figure move on a still wall? What did the early Chrome Angelz years teach you? How do letters and characters talk to each other?

Some influences you can see in the paint. Some you can hear when someone talks about them. – VenRod
