SinDee Pitches Baikal Blue: A Lake on a Zurich Wall

At the Dada Kaffee in Zurich SinDee presents her Baikal Blue mural idea, and the Klitty Crew finds a legal wall in Kreis 4 with an owner who says yes.

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 11 April 2019, 19:15. Spring has arrived, but I kept my green puffer jacket on anyway. Old farm habit. The others ordered coffee. I ordered tea and unrolled my sketch.

The lake I grew up with

Near the farm where I grew up there is a lake so clear you can see stones far below the surface. In winter the ice cracks in long blue lines. In summer the water is a colour I have never found in any spray can. I have been trying to mix it for two years.

The sketch shows the lake, a small cat on the shore with a pink beanie, and the sky folding into the water. No letters. Just blue, and space to breathe. I want people in Zurich to stop for a moment and feel cold, clean air.

Kinky said, "That's not a mural, that's a holiday." I'll take that.

The wall

DeeNice had already done her quiet magic. A long side wall in Kreis 4, owned by a calm old tomcat who runs a workshop there. He looked at my sketch last week and said yes, on one condition: no grey. Easy. Grey is not invited.

Decision: "Baikal Blue" will be painted in early June. In May we test colours on boards. PoshX will help with the shoreline cat, Kinky with the sky, DeeNice will hold the plan and the ladder.

I am nervous. That is good. Arrogant artists are never nervous, and I never want to be one.
