Should the Crew Grow? A Long Night of Honest Talk

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 9 February 2022, 20:00. A long evening. Three pots of tea, one plate of falafel, and a question we had avoided for almost five years.

The question After the comeback jam and the kids' wall, a few painters asked if they could join KC. Good painters. Nice cats. Kinky has met half of Zurich and wants to bring everyone in. PoshX loves big teams. I worry about the opposite – that a crew grows until nobody can speak freely anymore.

So we talked. Really talked. Nobody was arrogant, nobody sulked. DeeNice listened for an hour and wrote almost nothing, which is how you know she is thinking hard.

What we decided Nothing final, and that is a decision too. No new members for now. Instead, we open more doors: guests welcome at jams, at workshops, at sketchbook evenings. We paint with people before we promise them anything. We talk again after the anniversary.

Kinky was a little sad. Then she said: "Fine, but they can come to the party." Everyone agreed.

Five-year ideas The anniversary list in DeeNice's notebook grew fast: a meeting here at 17:17 on 17 July, obviously. A small "Five Lives" sticker – one cat, five tails, one for each year. A walk to all our old walls, from "KC Hello" in Kreis 5 to "Open Again". PoshX wants a group portrait painted by all four of us. More in March.
