Playlist Wars and a Barcelona Plan That Actually Works

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 17 September 2019, 19:00. I swapped two night shifts for this trip, so tonight I arrived with a very short list of patience and a very long list of questions. Luckily, DeeNice had answers to most of them.

The plan

We leave for Barcelona on the second Thursday in October and stay five days. Kinky's friends there have offered us a legal wall in a quiet courtyard near the sea. The owner said yes to anything "with cats and colour". That is not a hard brief for us.

We agreed on a small, joyful piece: four cats on a rooftop, looking out at the water, with the KC letters on a tiny flag. Kinky draws the letters, and she promised there would be no garden chairs involved. SinDee asked for one free morning to climb a hill alone. Granted. I asked for one evening at the beach to watch the light. Granted. I want to see if the sea there glows like a Turner painting.

The playlist

This is where things went wrong, as always. I proposed Annie Lennox for the train, Depeche Mode for the courtyard, and a little Magic Flute for the last evening. Kinky laughed for a full minute. Then she added AC/DC to the beginning, the middle and the end.

DeeNice ruled: Kinky's list for the train, mine for the painting days. SinDee asked for silence on the hill. Fair.

I will still play the Queen of the Night once. Nobody can stop me.
