Kinky Brings a Friend and a Community-Centre Wall

At the Dada Kaffee in Zurich Kinky introduces a community-centre caretaker, and the Klitty Crew agrees to paint a wall there together with neighbours.

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 22 August 2019, 20:15. I walked in with a guest, and the whole table gave me the look. You know the look. "Kinky met someone again."

Someone you should know

Her name is Mira, a calm black-and-white cat who looks after a community centre in Oerlikon. I met her at a flea market while we were both reaching for the same box of old records. (She let me have the AC/DC one. Instant friendship.)

Mira told the crew about the big hall in her centre. Kids' groups, choir nights, grandparents playing cards. And one long, sad, beige wall that everybody walks past and nobody looks at. She asked if we'd ever think about painting it.

DeeNice didn't answer right away. She asked questions. Who uses the hall? What do they love? What should the wall say to them in the morning? Mira had good answers. DeeNice closed the notebook, which is her way of saying yes before she says yes.

How we'll do it

This one's different. It's not our wall, it's theirs. So we want the neighbours to help design it.

Plan: after Barcelona, in November, we run a sketch night at the centre. Anyone can come and draw what they'd like to see. Then we turn all of it into one design and paint it together before the end of the year. PoshX already wants a choir of tiny cats in it. SinDee wants a tree.

Mira stayed for snacks. She's vegetarian too. I told you she was someone you should know.

"A wall in a community centre should feel like a hug, not a lecture." – Mira
