Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 12 April 2022, 19:30. Five weeks before Stockholm and I couldn't sit still. I ordered two coffees by accident. DeeNice drank the second one without comment.
The list DeeNice wrote the packing list in the notebook, and we each read it aloud like a poem. Sketchbooks. Brushes, rollers, gloves. Rain jackets. SinDee's pink beanie – "non-negotiable", she said, before anyone asked. PoshX's running shoes, because she wants to jog along the water every morning. My headphones, with AC/DC already downloaded "for the ferry".
Paint we buy there, with the Stockholm crew, so we don't carry heavy cans across Europe. Everyone pays their own share, as always.
A gift for the hosts I said: we can't arrive with empty paws. So tonight we decided on a thank-you sticker just for the Stockholm crew – our bridge design, tiny, with both crew names along the railing. Only for them, not for the street. SinDee cuts the stencil this week.
Who meets whom I've told everyone about my friends there for months. Tonight I finally drew them on a napkin: a tall black cat who paints only in silver, a small white one who always laughs, a ginger who can't stop talking about music. "You'll love them," I said. "Especially you, PoshX – the ginger loves Depeche Mode." PoshX looked very interested.
