Four Cats, Many Hands – "Open Again" Is on the Wall

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 20 May 2021, 20:30. Tired paws, happy faces. Four days after the last roller stroke we sat at our table and passed the phone around with photos as if they were baby pictures.

The weekend Three days in Zürich West. Day one: primer and grid, rain in the afternoon, umbrellas over the paint buckets. Day two: SinDee's sky, my gold, Kinky's doorway cat stretching out with pink claws. Day three: details, outlines and DeeNice standing back with her notebook, telling us where the wall "still looks shy".

Neighbours stopped, kids waved, one old cat brought us lemonade. The owner came by on Sunday, looked for a long time and said only: "Happy." That was the brief. Done.

Teamwork I have said it before and I'll say it again: teamwork is a source of inspiration in its own right. On my own I would never have mixed that middle tone between blue and gold. Four of us on one wall made something none of us could have painted alone.

What's next The owner said yes to the comeback jam on the same ground. Decision tonight: Saturday, 3 July, afternoon into evening. SinDee has found six old boards. Kinky is in charge of music, which is dangerous. DeeNice writes the invitations by hand.

And I need a holiday from shifts. I have booked two days. I'll spend them painting, obviously.
