Cardboard, Rollers and a Plan for a Comeback Jam

April 2021 at the Dada Kaffee in Zurich – the crew reviews the cardboard test patch for "Open Again" and starts planning a comeback street jam.

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 14 April 2021, 19:00. Spring finally arrived in Zurich and I arrived with paint on my boots. The test patch was rolled up under my arm like a treasure map.

The test patch We painted it on Sunday in DeeNice's courtyard: a big piece of cardboard, my ice-blue sky, PoshX's Turner gold breaking through. Tonight we unrolled it across two tables. The waiter raised an eyebrow and brought extra napkins.

Verdict: the blue works, the gold works, the place where they meet needs a softer edge. PoshX will mix a middle tone. Kinky's pink stays small. She agreed, then winked, which means it will grow a little on the day.

A jam after the wall Then Kinky said the thing we all were thinking. "After the wall, we need a party for the street." Not a big crowd, just friends, neighbours, other painters, some music, some boards to paint on. A comeback jam.

DeeNice opened the notebook. Decision: the jam happens in early July, right before our fourth birthday, on the same Zürich West ground if the owner agrees. DeeNice asks him. I organise boards. PoshX checks her shift plan before anyone books anything.

Walking home I walked home along the Limmat, the long way, like at home near Baikal. The air smelled like wet stone and new leaves. It felt like something was about to begin.

"You can't paint spring. You can only make room for it." – SinDee
