Twelve Test Boards and the Hunt for the Perfect Blue

Klitty Crew meeting at the Dada Kaffee in Zurich: test boards for SinDee's Baikal Blue mural, colour arguments and a painting date for June.

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 15 May 2019, 20:30. SinDee arrived carrying a stack of painted boards under one arm and a look of deep suspicion. Every board was blue. None of them was the right blue, she said.

The blue debate

We propped the boards against the wall behind our table and studied them like judges at a cat show. Kinky liked number four. PoshX liked number nine, because it reminded her of a Turner sky. I liked number seven, mostly because it was the only one SinDee hadn't sighed at.

SinDee walked along the row twice, then took number seven and number nine and held them side by side. "The water is seven. The ice is nine." Silence. Then everyone nodded, because it was obviously right and we should have seen it.

That is how most good decisions happen in this crew. Someone sees it first, and the rest of us pretend we were about to say it.

Practical things

I opened the notebook and we worked through the list. Ladder from the workshop owner. Drop cloths. Water for the painters, snacks for Kinky. PoshX checked her roster and found two free days in a row, which is rare enough to celebrate.

Decision: "Baikal Blue" gets painted on the first weekend of June, both days. Kinky does the sky blend on day one. PoshX and SinDee do the shore and the little cat on day two. I will do what I always do: stand back, look, and say "a bit to the left".

"The notebook said June. The notebook is rarely wrong." – DeeNice
