Paris – 10 February 2024, 23:20. The Globo, a long wall of paper, five cats and too many opinions for one evening.

Paper on the wall

The whole crew came to Paris for one reason: an exhibition at the Globo with the newest issues of the Zulu Lettre, Candy's fanzine. The issues hang open on the wall, page after page – black-and-white photos of walls and trains, hand-drawn letters, cut-and-paste layouts that look like they were glued together at three in the morning. They probably were. That is the beauty of it.

Kinky went straight to the letter pages. PoshX stood in front of the portraits. SinDee read every caption. VenRod photographed the layouts for his interview archive. I took notes, as always.

What a fanzine can do

A wall disappears. A train is gone in seconds. A fanzine stays in a drawer for thirty years and then someone opens it and the whole scene is back. That's what struck me tonight: Candy's pages are not decoration around the pictures – they are the glue between cities, crews and generations.

Decided: the Klitty Crew starts its own small paper zine. One page per member, black and white, no excuses. The first issue is due before the summer.

Paint is loud. Paper is patient. We need both. – DeeNice
