Cutting the Skyline Down to the Bone

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 9 April 2024, 19:00. Scissors on the table. Real ones. DeeNice had printed the full skyline sketch, and tonight we were going to cut it.

The cut

We took turns. Each cat could remove one thing from another cat's zone. Kinky lost a second subway train. SinDee lost three clouds and fought for the fourth, and won. I lost a tower I loved, and admit the bridge looks better without it. DeeNice lost nothing, because nobody dared.

What is left is clear: busy streets on the left, a bridge of cats in the middle, a cold-blue sky melting into pink on the right, and one small garden chair on a rooftop.

Team days

A wall that size needs a plan for bodies, not just paint. My job. Painting starts the first week of June, ten days, with scaffolding on the high parts. Two cats up, two cats down, swapping every two hours. Water, shade, breaks. I am a nurse, I cannot help it.

First school visit

Last Thursday we visited the class in Oerlikon. Twenty-two pupils, twenty-two ideas, one of them a giant pizza with wings. SinDee showed them how colours talk to each other. Kinky showed them the garden chair. They wanted it on their wall too. We said it is their wall, so they decide.

Music

Mozart's The Magic Flute for the first morning on the scaffolding. I asked for it as a birthday present for myself. The crew agreed. Kinky asked what comes after. We all know what comes after.
