Rooftop Geometry – Twelve Boards With BandO in Cairo

In Cairo PoshX and BandO paint "Rooftop Geometry", twelve travelling boards of stencilled patterns and cat faces, shown in a courtyard for one night.

Cairo – 8 February 2025, 21:05. Four days, twelve wooden boards, two sore wrists and more tea than I drink in a month at home.

Rooftop Geometry

BandO's idea was simple: instead of one wall, we paint twelve boards that can travel. Each board gets one of his star patterns and one of my cat faces. When you put them side by side, the patterns connect and become one big field – like twelve windows of one house.

We painted on the roof in the mornings, before the heat. In the afternoons his neighbours came up to watch. An old cat who used to repair wooden screens corrected BandO's angles, and BandO thanked him like a student thanks a teacher. I loved that moment more than the paintings.

One night in a courtyard

Tonight the boards stood in a courtyard down the street, leaning against the walls, lit by a string of lamps. People moved them around and made their own pattern. Nobody stood still for long – everyone wanted to try a new order.

Four of the boards will travel to Zurich in my luggage (I already apologised to my suitcase). DeeNice will want a plan for them. I already have one: the Dada Kaffee table, the next meeting, all four in a row.

Art that travels makes friends faster than I do. – PoshX
