Back From the Bronx With a Suitcase Full of Sketches

May at the Dada Kaffee in Zurich: Kinky returns from New York with stories and sketches, and the crew starts planning its first summer street jam.

Dada Kaffee, Zurich – 9 May 2018, 19:30.

I am back! Still a bit jet-lagged, very happy, and yes, I brought bagels. Vegetarian ones. They were a little squashed after the flight, but nobody complained.

New York, in short

Three weeks with eight family members in one apartment. Nobody sleeps, everybody talks. I walked the old routes in the Bronx and filled almost a whole sketchbook with fire escapes, water towers and the subway. I also met a painter there who does huge letters in one colour only. I told the crew: you should know her one day. They rolled their eyes, but they know I am usually right about these things.

Seeing Seventeen

On Sunday I finally saw the finished Seventeen in Zürich West. I almost cried. My climbing cats are there, and the others finished my sketches exactly the way I drew them. Even the little garden-chair K I had hidden in the corner. Someone, and I think it was SinDee, gave it a tiny cushion.

The street jam

Now the summer. We want a street jam in early July, one afternoon, one long legal wall, open for other local painters. SinDee is already talking to an owner in Kreis 4. DeeNice wants a clear list: who paints where, when we start, when we clean up. I will make the flyer. And the music. Guess which band.

Want to see the New York sketches? Some are on my page.
