Paris – 30 May 2026, 22:45. Five tired cats on a bench by the Seine: DeeNice, Kinky, SinDee, VenRod and me. Nobody wants to go to bed yet.
BandO1 at the Palais de Tokyo
We came for my friend from the Cairo rooftops. BandO1 – the stencil artist I met in 2025 – has a show at the Palais de Tokyo, and of course the whole crew had to see it: star patterns turning into letters, letters turning back into patterns, and a long wall where the light falls through his stencils like lace. BandO1 hugged every one of us. DeeNice let him.
Our guide for the day was Yovan Perrez, a Paris letter expert BandO1 has known for years. He walked us through the show and then through letters in general – and changed how I see a wall.
Simple letters, silver and one perfect line
Yovan started with the simplest thing: a letter that is easy to read is not a weak letter. "Simple is the hardest style," he said, "because you can't hide anything." Then he talked about silver style – chrome-silver letters with a clean black outline, the classic of the trains: no colour tricks, only shape, outline and a tiny white highlight. And about the beauty of one perfectly pulled line – one movement, no hesitation, the same pressure from beginning to end. Kinky went quiet. That never happens.
S, E and N
Then the three letters. The S: two curves that have to balance each other, or the whole word falls over. The E: three bars that give a word its rhythm, like a drum. The N: the diagonal that pulls everything forward – the most energy in the alphabet. He drew all three on a paper napkin, one line each.
DeeNice put the napkin in her notebook. VenRod wants Yovan for CatWorldNews. SinDee wants to paint a silver S on her next wall. And Kinky practised N's on the bench until her paw hurt.
A letter doesn't need decoration. It needs a line that knows where it's going. – Yovan Perrez, as noted by PoshX
