Kinky carves a pumpkin – and then becomes one

Zurich – 22 October 2026, 9:31. Kitchen table, flour on my sketchbook, one very big pumpkin looking at me like it knows what's coming.

The idea came at breakfast

Every year I promise myself a costume that is not just cat ears with extra glitter. This year DeeNice opened the black notebook, drew a circle, gave it a stalk and wrote my name under it. Discussion over. I'm going as a jack-o'-lantern.

Carving with a sketch first

Of course I sketched the face before touching the knife. Three tries: the first one looked like a sad potato, the second like a garden chair (don't ask), the third one has the eyes, the grin – and a KC right in the middle. That one went onto the belly of the costume.

Nothing gets wasted

The inside of the pumpkin became a soup, obviously vegetarian, with ginger and far too much pepper. SinDee had two bowls and said it tastes like Siberian autumn. I'm choosing to take that as a compliment. The seeds are roasting right now, and the whole flat smells like a fairground.

Dance test in the hallway

A pumpkin who can't dance is just a vegetable. So I tested the costume in the hallway with AC/DC on – the hat stays on, the belly bounces, the jeans survive. Our neighbour knocked to ask if everything was okay. I winked. He left.

See you on the 31st

The whole crew is getting ready: a skeleton, a wizard, a vampire, a white witch and me, the pumpkin. If you want to dance with us, the Halloween T-shirt, the poster and the sticker are already in my fan shop.

Tomorrow: finding out who stole my last pumpkin seed. My money is on VenRod.
