Buenos Aires – 24 November 2025, 19:30. November in Zurich: cold paws. November in Buenos Aires: jacarandas in bloom and evenings that never want to end. My first long holiday this year, and I spent the first day just walking.
Swirls, flowers and a fine brush
BandO had a contact here too – of course he did. "Find BoD. She paints the most patient letters in South America." I found her in a small workshop, painting a sign with a brush so fine it had maybe ten hairs. Swirls, leaves, little flowers and bright letters with shadows in three colours – the decorative style of old Buenos Aires signs and buses.
BoD doesn't hurry. Every curl has its place. She watched me sketch for a while and then said, "You paint people. I paint the words people need." I think that's the best description of the two of us.
A tango playlist
We painted until late, with her playlist running: tango, then Bowie, then tango again. BoD says Bowie would have loved tango. I didn't argue. Kinky will have a problem with this playlist, I'm sure. AC/DC was not on it.
She has a wall at a neighbourhood workshop in La Boca, and the owners already agreed. She wants letters, I want faces. We start tomorrow.
